Chris Guenther Performs to Sold-Out show
Centralia, Washington (January 20, 2004) Chris Guenther made a strong impression, performing to a sold-out crowd at Corbet Theater on the Centralia College campus Saturday night. The capacity crowd was entertained with a good sampling of Guenther’s compositions. Rolling through a half hour set of well-crafted country music, Guenther’s repertoire focused upon his newer material that will be released on his up-coming album due out this summer. After playing a few cuts off of his debut CD and getting applause for citing Hank Williams as a major influence, Guenther closed his show with a fiddle instrumental that paid tribute the late Don Rich. Like Guenther, Don Rich, Buck Owens’s acclaimed sideman, had been a student at Centralia College in the late 1950s, later becoming a major influence on the Bakersfield Sound in the following decade. Guenther noted, “It was a great opportunity to bring attention to one of the greatest instrumental sidemen of all-time.”
